A Vision for Small Business Websites
L: Today, I am talking to John Tomsky about his vision of how Reyus can help small businesses to develop online. I guess my first question is: why are small businesses the focus?
J: I think it's never a good idea to try and be all things to all people and so our aim to create a unique service by concentrating on one part of the market. Our angle is delivering maximm value to those businesses who don't have thousands of pounds to throw away on websites but who nevertheless need similar solutions to those who have larger budgets.
L: That sounds promising! Surely a big business would also love to have the same solution at a lower price so wouldn't they be interested in your services too?
J: Well, we do occasionally get bigger clients for precisely that reason. But what we do not offer them is the full corporate treatment, by which I mean a load of face-to-face meetings, 50-page proposals, flow charts and complimentary lava lamps. Clients can always pay extra if they want to be pampered in that kind of way but most people just want to cut to the chase and get a great website without paying too much, and that's a requirement that we very much respect.
L: I see. So basically you offer a slightly more streamlined service aimed at giving people more bang for their buck, so to speak?
J: Exactly! We focus only on what produces the right results for the client. I think there are a lot of companies nowadays who really spend an incredible amount of time just making clients feel important so that they can then justify charging a higher price.
L: Your procedures obviously work very well since you've managed to consistently delight clients on a weekly basis with an impressive list of projects
J: We're certainly very proud of what we have achieved and I think that our high referral rates show that our way of working is proving highly effective. If you are thinking about using our services you can literally call any of our clients for a live testimonial which I think most of them would be very happy to give.
L: Ultimately, people spend a lot less money when they order their site from Reyus so I imagine that is a great selling point.
J: It certainly is a big plus but we also compete on quality since we have developed a strict set of company standards to ensure that websites are designed, built and set up in a way that helps them to meet a whole range of quality guidelines.
L: So what is the long-term vision?
J: For me, it's all about looking after existing clients to ensure that they continue to recommend us. And part of our strategy for doing this is to offer free functionality improvements. We have a system used by all clients to manage their websites and our plan is simply to keep adding to that and making it better for everyone.
L: I see, so just by being a Reyus client you can expect to get free features added to the system without having to pay bespoke development fees for the privilege.
J: Yes, that's one of the thigns that makes our service different. As a Reyus client you get a lot of nice surprises because every now and then we are adding useful features free of charge and we are committed to reinvesting company money into that ongoing system development. In the long term, we would like thousands of people to come to us because they have heard about how easy our system is to use and how many great features are packed into it.
L: I think that makes particularly good sense on the web because the Internet is all about change and there are always new technologies coming out.
J: Absolutely! The web keeps being used in new ways and we are most interested in adding those new features that help with the marketing of a small business online. What we want to do is to offer clients an affordable way to keep developing their sites by regularly adding something of value that they can take advantage of.
